As a blogger and entrepreneur, I’ll be the first to admit that there are days when everything just feels HARD… Days when self-doubt creeps in and you start to wonder if what you’re doing is even worthwhile. It’s incredibly important to be well-equipped in times like this. One quick and easy method that I use to inject a dose of motivation and energy into my work is through TED talks (or podcasts – more on that here). Below, I’ve rounded up the most inspiring TED talks for bloggers out there!

To get the most out of life…

Mel Robbins’ TEDx Talk called “How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over” is hilarious and provides tips for how to get the most out of life. She recommends getting yourself off autopilot and trusting your impulses. In creative pursuits and in business, getting out of your own way and focusing on making decisions without self-judgment and speculation can lead to some of the best ideas. This talk helped me reflect on my tendencies, and see where I might be blocking myself from my own growth.

– If you haven’t heard talks by psychology researcher and professor Brené Brown, you must! She’s funny, incredibly smart, and has devoted her life’s work to researching the most interesting aspects of the way humans interact with one another, including empathy, love, vulnerability, and shame.

Her talk, “The Power of Vulnerability” has a great message on how to experience life, work, and relationships to the fullest. It’s helped me investigate my own views on vulnerability, what it means to me, and how I can interact with others and myself in a more honest way.

– “Listening to Shame” is another inspirational talk of hers, which has direct application to the business world, where shame and insecurity can often scare us away from doing our best work.

– “Choosing to Fly” by Steph Davis is a heartbreaking story about an incredible athlete’s struggle enduring grief and loss, and the ways she learned to keep jumping headfirst into life. She illustrates the difference between just “enduring” hardships and becoming a more resilient human being through any challenge. I can’t imagine the terrible sadness she has gone through, but hard times come upon all of us at some point, and hearing her lessons for survival is truly inspiring.

Luvvie Ajayi has a powerful message in her talk, “Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable.” In all sectors of life, whether it be the home and family world, the workplace, academic settings, or among friends, there are often times where we have to decide if we’re going to speak up or stay silent. Many of us have been taught to avoid stirring up trouble and end up silencing ourselves in an effort to avoid discomfort. Luvvie Ajayi argues that this social norm is unproductive, and explains why we must become more comfortable with being uncomfortable if we want to progress as a society.

– A really popular TED talk among businesspeople and marketing professionals is “Start With Why – How Leaders Inspire Action” by Simon Sinek. He explains that in business, the way you frame your product or service is everything – and that the most success often comes from giving a strong reason for why you do something. It gets to the core of what effective “branding” can be. This idea has been really influential in my life as a fashion blogger and influencer and has helped me learn how to stand apart from the hundreds of other people doing similar work.

– If you’re anything like me, getting work projects done on a schedule without procrastinating can be a challenge! I am definitely prone to putting things off until the very last minute, which is why I love Tim Urban’s talk, “Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator.”

In this relatable and hilarious speech, he gets into the true experience of being a procrastinator, and why we seem to always procrastinate on things that are the most important. As a person who works for herself, this talk was both close to home and motivated me to change some of my habits.
