As Miss Congeniality so elegantly stated that April 25th is the best date because “it’s not too hot and not too cold. All you need is a light jacket”. That is exactly how I would describe the beginning of the spring season too! As much as we want to completely ditch all outerwear, it is just not practical because there continues to be a lingering chill in the air. There are certain jackets I have been relying on more than ever during this transitional phase into full-blown spring, each serving up a different look and style. I wanted to recap them here for you so you, too, can have an arsenal of go-to lightweight jackets to help you gear up for spring.

Colorful Blazer

We already know how iconic the blazer is but this spring I put more emphasis on colorful versions. Not only does it cater to the bright color trend but it also just helps to refresh an age-old style. Think about it – a classic blazer silhouette looks totally revamped when dipped in a bright blue or a lime green. Plus, I am all for the juxtaposition between a polished blazer style paired with a more flamboyant and bright colorway. To me, this makes for such an interesting outfit that will be sure to get you noticed!

Rain Jacket

As much as I love this season, it sure does bring a lot of spring showers. We all know how iconic a trench coat is when battling the environmental elements but this season, I am trying to make a case for the classic rain jacket! There is something so charming about a rain jacket and not only does it protect you from the downpour, it also looks incredibly chic whilst doing so. I even went so far as investing in a rain jacket in that traditional bright yellow – which makes for a great pop of color.

Tweed

Feel free to channel your inner Chanel this springtime too. Another light jacket option I have been gravitating towards is tweed as I cannot get enough of its inherent preppy vibe. It seems that others agree with me as I noticed there has been an uptick in demand for matching sets in a variety of tweed. If you ever want to dress up a basic pair of denim, the addition of a tweed jacket can surely do the trick. Keep your look contemporary and modern by pairing with updated accessories.

Statement Shoulder

For a spring jacket you can deploy for warmth and for style, I highly recommend shopping jackets with a bit of a statement shoulder incorporated into the design. Puffy sleeve blouses are still in demand so why not take it a step further and opt for a jacket version as well. I love the volume and interest it provides. The statement shoulder jacket also pays homage to the 90s when every jacket came with those sewn-in shoulder pads.

Shrug

Finally, the last item is not necessarily a light jacket, but I think it fits well into this category. The shrug continues to a trendy module piece that is nonchalantly tossed over a tank top or bra top.

I think there is no better time than now to try this look out as it is essentially just detachable sleeves you can tack on to your top for a bit of extra warmth.
