The pandemic has hit everyone extremely hard but one of the sectors that has been hit the worst are definitely restaurants. While it is important to keep everyone as safe as possible, unforeseeable lockdowns and dining restrictions have forced some restaurants to permanently close. I have been trying my best to grab takeout to help support some of my favorite eateries. My family is a huge fan of ramen so it’s one of our go-to takeout’s. As it continues to get colder out, I imagine we will order it even more because it is the perfect comfort food! If you are on the hunt for that perfect, steamy bowl of ramen, this is the post for you. Here are some of the best ramen restaurants in NYC!

Ippudo NY

Hands down, one of my top places for a delicious bowl of ramen is Ippudo. If you are a foodie, chances are you have heard of this spot! Their ramen is absolutely delicious and you can tell each order is made with care. If you are new, everyone always recommends going for their tonkotsu ramen. Ippudo currently has the Westside and East Village locations open for in-door dining but both also offer pickup or delivery via Uber Eats or Grubhub.

Totto Ramen

For chicken-based ramen, head on over to Totto Ramen. Their chicken broth is a combination of the meat, vegetables and spices – and is then slow-cooked for 6 hours or more for that decadent flavor. I really like Totto ramen because you can customize it. They have options of their straight or wavy noodles and a plethora of different toppings. Totto Ramen is available for takeout/delivery and limited in capacity for dine-in at the moment.

Ivan Ramen

If you are a fan of Chef’s Table, you might have seen the episode on Chef Ivan Orkin. He went through traditional ramen training in Japan and then went on to open up his world-renowned restaurant. If you are looking for a new take on this dish, I could not recommend this spot more. It’s one of the absolute best ramen restaurants in NYC. Their signature is a roasted tomato in the soup that adds a really interesting, flavorful touch! Ivan Ramen is open for indoor dining as of now, as well as online orders.

Ichiran

Pre-covid, I loved this spot because they offered single-dining. They call it the ramen focus booth but it is a single seat that is blocked off to prevent you from getting distracted by the usual sounds and sights of a restaurant. This seating allows the customer to focus in and enjoy the meal before them. They also specialize specifically in tonkotsu ramen, so you know it is going to be delicious!

Momosan

Started by Iron Chef, Morimoto, Momosan Ramen & Sake is absolutely delicious. They have a variety of ramen including tonkotsu, veggie and tsukemen, as well as fresh sushi – a combination I am always down for. Momosan is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner date. Currently, they have limited dine-in, take out and contactless delivery via Seamless.

Zen Ramen

This Japanese restaurant is another place to visit when you are craving both ramen and sushi! Some of their most popular dishes are actually appetizers – the crawfish tempura and steamed buns with pork belly are absolutely mouthwatering. Of course, the tonkotsu ramen is divine and so are the seafood ramen options!

Ajisen Ramen

Operating since 1968, Ajisen Ramen is another classic noodle spot. This is one of the more affordable restaurants I have listed so far. Each bowl is around $10 to $13 but the flavor will still have you coming back time and time again. Ajisen ramen has locations in Chelsea, Chinatown and Flushing – all are open for dine-in at 25% capacity, take-out and delivery (except Chinatown – they do not currently have a delivery option).

Momofuku Noodle Bar

Michelin star chef and TV Personality, David Chang, is the founder of Momofuku Noodle Bar so as you might have guessed, the ramen is outstanding! What I love about ordering from Momofuku is how they have a different spin on this dish. I highly recommend giving the mushroom ramen a try! It contains chickpea hozon, toasted chili and pea shoot – perfect for my vegetarians. Momofuku Noodle Bar is currently available for walk up orders, to-go order or DoorDash delivery.
