New: Kitten Heels
In the Fall, classic Mary Jane shoes were definitely trending with their eponymous round toe and strap across the instep. However, as we move towards warmer weather, people are definitely favoring another timeless silhouette that is a little more open and airy. The kitten heel is not only chic, but it’s a practical style that can easily adapt to a workplace outfit, brunch attire, or a formal setting. You will continue to see different variations of the kitten heel paired with suit sets, summer dresses, and mini skirts.

A shoe trend that is constantly evolving is the shape of the toe. Previously, the shoe market was dominated by round and pointed heeled shoes, but these are pushed aside as we make way for the return of the square toe. Clearly another resurgence from the 90’s, the square toed shoe is taking over multiple silhouettes, including heels, mules, and mid-calf boots.

Shoes with tapestry woven patterns and flashy florals are done. We have now moved onto into incorporating animal print into our beloved shoes. Neutral cheetah and snake skin are some of the easiest ways to ease into this footwear trend. Plus, it makes any outfit look a little more interesting with the perfect amount of print that doesn’t necessarily take away from an outfit.

Old: Pool Slides
New: Chunky Sandals
As far as some of the more relaxed footwear options, pool slides were definitely big in previous seasons. However, for summer 2019, the latest casual style shoe is the chunky sandal. Think touristy vibes and utility shoes with a contemporary upgrade. Perhaps this is the summer version of the dad shoe? Birkenstock-like shoes are not only being paired with jeans and tees, but also romantic tops and feminine dresses for something new and refreshing.
