One of my favorite things to do is scout the fashion scene for trends that are on their way out and those that are about to blow up. Going from summer to fall is always tricky because I have a soft spot for outfit combos that require little effort but also obsess over the latest emerging trends. In case you’re not sure what to stash away or keep, I wanted to share with you guys the summer trends to retire this fall. Once you do that, you can make room for what’s about to take over.

Clear Heels

As much as I love the clear PVC trend, it’s probably time to phase those shoes out for fall. Of course I think PVC bags will continue to trend hard – and as a matter of fact that ubiquitous Staud bag will probably stay relevant). However, clear shoes are going to be much less practical and out place in a cozy, layered ensemble.

Tropical Florals

Dark, moody florals will always work for fall, but once Labor Day is over, I’d pass on tropical brights. I think it’s probably safe to stow those away until next year and instead, get a head start on fall with full leather looks. I’m especially a fan of leather animal print – it’s so edgy and unexpected.

Straw Hats

Straw hats may a cornerstone piece in summer outfits, but I’m going to retire them once I get back from vacation. The trendier bucket hat is going to take over – and expect to see tons of it on the streets during NYFW. Both vintage prints and solid colors will put on the final touches.

If there’s one thing I’m truly getting tired of seeing, it’s probably pearl and crystal hairpins. Not going to deny – I was obsessed with them at first but it’s becoming redundant. If you’re in need of a fun, feminine alternative, enter bows and headbands. The bigger the better! They may seem a bit more kitschy, but I can get behind that!

Coin Necklaces

Delicate jewelry is one of those things that will always be in – and of course, you can always layer them for a stronger statement look. But if you’re getting tired of wearing the same old stash, heavy chain necklaces are the upgrade you need (love this coin version!). They look great over basic tees as well as plunging necklines!

Woven Bags

Once a certain item starts getting marked down like crazy, it’s cue to put it away. One of the pieces that pop up at the top of my head is woven bags from raffia to straw, wicker, and anything in between. What you really need is a croc effect bag to elevate your looks and get you ready for fall! Sure you can still buy straw accessories now, but don’t wear them again till next year!
