Is there anything better than strolling around New York City in the fall? I think not! Although New York is perfect for that bustling city life, it also has a certain charm that I fall in love with all over again during this time of the year. Fall is the perfect time to visit in my opinion because the humidity has died down, you get nice breezy evenings that aren’t freezing, and it’s nowhere near the unbearable temps of late winter. It’s the perfect time for layers that can piled on or peeled off. If you’re planning a visit to the city soon and you’re not sure what to wear to New York City in the fall, I’ve partnered with Reiss once more to share my ideal packing list and favorite pieces from the new fall collection.

Relaxed Jumper

With temperatures that range from the 50s-60s, you’ll be safe packing a few relaxed jumpers. Since mornings and evenings tend to be cooler, it’s important to have a variety of lighter and thicker knit tops. I found several styles I loved from the new Reiss collection.

During the day, a light merino wool knit is the perfect weight and won’t leave you in a hot flash. I layered mine under a poncho. Although it’s a simple look, it’s also perfect for both NYC’s downtown and uptown energy.

At night, you’ll want something heavier like this cable knit jumper. What’s perfect about these knits is that they work for the office underneath blazers (in case you’re traveling for work), but can also be dressed down with jeans.

Day to Night Pieces

When out in NYC, there’s no reason to stay in since there’s so much to see and explore. So, it’s important to ensure you have versatile day to night pieces. Camisoles and lace blouses are ideal separates for pairing with skirts or jeans. However, I couldn’t keep my eyes off this gorgeous jumpsuit. It would work for the day with a lightweight cardigan and just stunning for the evening with a pair of heels.

Trousers

Lately, I find myself grabbing trousers before anything else. They’re just so versatile and comfy to wear – even more so than jeans at times. A pair of plaid pants is another one of those pieces that work in and out of the office. The contemporary style of these are perfect for strolling around the city, especially in my favorite neighborhoods like SoHo! There are so many places to shop and hip places to eat. You can also try a tapered or wide leg silhouette if you like a little more polish.

Outerwear

You can’t go wrong packing a few outerwear pieces in the fall. No need to go crazy with heavy parkas and fur coats early-mid fall, but a few blazers, leather jacket, and cardigans are just right. I try to stick with pieces that can be layered together with my sweaters. And if you like, you can even pack a few scarves – cashmere is essential for staying warm. If you’re headed to NYC between November – December, you’ll definitely want a coat like this.

Shoes for Walking & Going Out

When it comes to shoes, remember that you’ll do a lot of walking. You guys know I love my boots around this time, so I would recommend a low block heel that you can walk in and then something more sleek for the evenings. The style and color of this pair is stunning!
